Allergy Awareness

Our overall mission is to work collaboratively with school staff and leadership to create programs and guidelines that benefit all students with food allergies. Our long-term goal is create a visible and long-lasting committee that can help support the needs of food allergic children in Amsterdam School. Our committee will place an emphasis on food allergy awareness within the school community to improve the safety, well-being, and inclusion of all children.

Art Appreciation

The Art Appreciation Program is a monthly art lesson conducted by parents in each classroom. The lesson includes presenting themed artwork and directing a related craft activity.

Coordinate assemblies for the school, including contract negotiation, scheduling with the school principal, contract review and board of education approval.

Coordinate all aspects of ASHA's fundraisers.

Barnes and Noble Book Fair 

The Chairs work with the representative from the Barnes and Noble to choose content for the fair, solicit volunteers for set-up and volunteers to work at the fair. 

Class Parent

The Class Parent committee chairs are responsible for fairly selecting two class parents for each class as well as the notices going to Class Parents (e.g., suggested notice from CP to individual parents).

Plan and coordinate Vendors and Crafters to sell items at our Craft Fair.

Family Activities

Plan and coordinate events for Amsterdam families. Events can be at offsite locations during the evenings or weekends.

Fourth Grade Day

Plan and oversee an end-of-year day of fun for the outgoing 4th grade class based on guidelines to be given by ASHA & the Principal.

Provide application guidelines for teachers and students to submit grant request to ASHA. Work closely with Principal to screen and approve and approve applications.

Coordinate and plan all aspects of the annual Halloween event.

Kindergarten Orientation

Coordinate the kindergarten orientation program that takes place the last week of August. This includes working with the office staff to notify kindergarten parents of orientation times, greeting kindergarten parents, and presenting to the parents about ASHA.


Life Skills

Solicit classroom volunteers to present district-wide program to children about at-risk situations and dangers they face. Inform classroom volunteers to arrange for scheduling of classroom presentations and district provided training for volunteers. This is a great at-home volunteering option for Life Skills Chairpersons. It involves a lot of email coordination.

The Membership / FF committee chair will send out correspondence to entire school with instructions on how to sign up on Community Pass.

Playtime in Science

Organize and coordinate a program for 1st graders consisting of basic science experiments. This program is chaired by 1st grade parents.

Red Ribbon

Follow district program suggestions for Red Ribbon week at Amsterdam. In addition to the district program student activities and decorations are encouraged.

Responsible for enhancing the outside of the school with landscaping and seasonal decorations.

Coordinate the annual teacher appreciation luncheon event in May.

Coordinate and organize the annual school variety show.

Responsible for the publication of the annual school yearbook. Includes selecting and instructing class photographers, collecting classroom photos from photographers, working with photo software to develop yearbook layouts, collecting payments from parents, and yearbook distribution.
